The Clinton Symphony Orchestra

“What I see right now, which is very exciting, is possibility. And that we can create an ensemble that the community will feel very proud of—that the community will feel they’re needing there—Something that the community will feel is theirs. And that’s very important. That’s the kind of work that we need to do right now to build the orchestra, build those relationships, to make sure that we are there for the community and for the people.”        -Maestro Octavio Más-Arocas

The Clinton Symphony Orchestra of the Mohawk Valley is ready to shine, as we emerge from the cloud of COVID19! Please support the efforts of this fledgling professional orchestra as we strive raise $60,000 to build our resources for years to come.

Our story is not unlike many other non-profit arts organizations all over the country. The Clinton Symphony Orchestra of the Mohawk Valley, Inc. was established in 2014 with a mission to produce quality, professional, classical music concerts for our community. We are committed to keeping our ticket prices low by charging only a flat rate of $35 per ticket, and securing funding to offer free tickets to students. Because we are dedicated to cultural enrichment and musical education, our presiding music director presents free pre-concert lectures on the pieces to be performed.

Among the renowned works we have presented are:
Scheherazade, by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov
Serge Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, c minor, op.18
Tchaikowsky's Symphony No. 6 (“Pathétique”)
Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 of Johann Sebastian Bach
Appalachian Spring, by Aaron Copland
Knoxville: Summer of 1915, op.24, by Samuel Barber
The Enemies Suite, by Ben Moore

The CSOMV has also presented unique programs, such as a talk by founding music director, Charles Schneider, on his experience working with Leonard Bernstein and conducting West Side Story’s touring production. We also collaborated with Juilliard for a fantastic performance of operatic favorites, featuring two highly gifted artists from the School of Music. In 2019, we completed our year of music with a string ensemble presentation at the Mohawk Valley Community College. This began a partnership with MVCC that will allow us to regularly offer smaller ensemble performances year round.

Like so many arts organizations, the Clinton Symphony Orchestra suffered from the pandemic ̶ canceling planned performances and losing ground in building a base of financial support. Entering 2020, the CSOMV was prepared to present two fully orchestrated concerts, the MVCC small ensemble concert series, and thanks to a grant, and community support, we would proudly announce the inauguration of an annual concert devised for students in elementary schools to attend as part of their curriculum. With that grant, we would finally realize a dream of reaching children to educate them on the possibilities that music can bring, allow them the chance to meet all sorts of instruments, and to experience the wonder of those instruments coming alive together to create one magical symphony orchestration.

So now, as we emerge from the pandemic, the CSOMV seeks to re-establish those plans that were in place for 2020 and set a solid path for the future. We hire local musicians, and occasionally some from across New York State ̶ and because they are professionals, we pay them what their artistry deserves. Each concert costs $20,000 ̶ $40,000 to produce, a modest budget relative to our peers, and a remarkable accomplishment, with little or no corporate backing, or major donors. Our success relies, at this time, on community support and a dedicated board and staff.

The Clinton Symphony Orchestra represents a legacy of professional classical music in the Mohawk Valley that began 110 years ago. It represents family, and community. It represents lasting cultural enrichment and education for us and our children. We invite you to be a part of our success as we seek $60,000 in support to restart our season and lay the groundwork for our future.

Thank you for your time, and consideration.
