2019 FALL FUND DRIVE: FAB FOUR!

Help us reach our goal to continue to bring quality early music training and performances to Southern California's musicians and communities through 2020.

·       Free community concerts
·       Scholarships
·       Community partnerships
·       Breakout programs

2019-20 marks our fourth season as Los Angeles’s only community program for orchestral baroque study and performance. We aim to raise $5,000 on- and off-line this fall, between November 15 and December 31. This contributed income subsidizes our activities, enhancing our other two income sources: musician memberships and concert donations. We truly value our Angels—those who contribute $300 or more. These lead donors are listed in our printed programs and offered priority seating at our concerts. However, donations in any amount are gratefully accepted.

When you contribute, you are giving vital support to:

·       Scholarships. We give six full scholarships per season based on merit, motivation and need. This fall our young scholarship recipients are violinist Leyla Fezuleyeva, who moved here from Louisiana this fall to continue her graduate studies at Claremont Graduate University; and Sylvia Schwartz, who also moved here recently and is pursuing a career as a Baroque violinist.

·       Free community concerts. Last spring and this fall we performed at three Los Angeles Public Libraries. Our concerts were so successful that LAPL has just awarded us a 2020 spot on their system-wide cultural programming series: LA Made.

·       Partnerships. In the spring of 2020 LAB will partner with its sister community baroque orchestra in San Diego: Kensington Baroque. We will join forces and the combined groups will perform in San Diego on March 7 and in South Pasadena on March 8.

·       Spreading our wings. In June of 2020 we will perform in Berkeley’s Early Music Festival Fringe series, reprising our concert production of John Blow’s opera Venus and Adonis. This project gives Los Angeles’s young aspiring singers a chance to learn and perform a Baroque opera. Further at the Berkeley Festival, we will participate in a community ensemble day, with five other Western United States community performing groups.

Los Angeles Baroque

Now in its fourth season, LAB is a weekly learning environment where musicians of all levels can come together for expert coaching and to receive—and give local communities the opportunity to experience—enjoyable, meaningful performances under its specialist Artistic Directors: Baroque violinist Lindsey Strand-Polyak  and Baroque cellist Alexa Haynes-Pilon. Founded in 2016, LAB gives dedicated community, student and professional musicians regular opportunities to explore repertoire and learn baroque playing style (suitable for music composed c.1600-1750.) The group presents three main season concerts a year at its home of St James's Episcopal Church in South Pasadena, hosts workshops, and undertakes community outreach projects and performance collaborations, from San Diego to Berkeley, CA. LAB's goal is to encourage, support and expand the early music community in Los Angeles, and to be inclusive in reach to give all highly motivated players the opportunity to participate and learn. Its activities are educational and fun for local communities and players alike. Learn more at losangelesbaroque.org
