Hello,
My name is Ron King, and I am the Commander of the Plymouth VFW Post 6695. It pains me to be writing this, and asking for the help of our community, but it is my duty to look out for our veterans, and employees at our Plymouth VFW Post.
Covid-19 has put our VFW Post in an awful financial position. Most of our fundraisers have been canceled since March, our lounge business has been devastated, we have not been able to rent out our banquet hall, and the bills continue to roll in.
To put it bluntly, we are in a dangerous financial situation, and we need the help of our great community to weather this storm. Our VFW Post is a necessary gathering spot for veterans from all conflicts. It is a place where our veterans can gather for friendship, as well as healing. We have Service Officers here, to help veterans get the benefits that they deserve, we are also the home of the Plymouth-Canton Vietnam Veterans Chapter 528.
Not only do we serve our veterans, but we also serve our community in a variety of ways. Our veterans have an Adopt A Road team, we sponsor a local Boy Scout Troop, we have helped the Girl Scouts with their cookie sales, we have an American Flag program, where we will retire old flags, and replace them with new ones for our community members. We have worked with the Miracle League, we have sponsored families for Christmas, we go into schools, and speak to students about our experiences, and answer questions for them, we do host Red Cross Blood Drives, and so much more. These are but a few of the things that we try to do, to serve our local communities.
Unfortunately, Covid-19 has wiped out all of our fundraising, and banquet hall rentals, and we are at a crossroads. While our community has been so very supportive throughout the years, attending our Lenten Fish Frys, our Car Shows, and all of our other events, that pay the bills, it is with a heavy heart that we find ourselves in the position to come to you, and ask for more support.
Our veterans cannot shoulder this alone. We have come to the point, where we need our community's support to weather this storm, and keep this wonderful place open, for not only our veterans, but for our whole community. If we were able to raise $10,000 with this GoFundMe effort, it would get us through the next 4-6 months. It would help us weather this terrible storm that Covid-19 has brought upon our nation. Any donation, big or small will greatly help, and we would never ask, if it was not absolutely necessary.
Thank You for your time, and Thank You for your help.
