THE NAM LE RESPIRATORY THERAPIST PPE FUNDRAISER

Respiratory Therapists are truly the front line workers in the fight against COVID-19.  They are the ones who deal directly with patients every day infected with COVID-19, as it is primarily a respiratory disease.  It is absolutely imperative that these  professional hero’s have unobstructed access to life saving protective PPE’s (personal protective equipment).

My step-father, Nam Le, was a Respiratory Therapist for most of his career at (then) Sudbury Regional Hospital, now Health Sciences North, and I am starting this fundraiser in his name. (His story below)

This fundraiser is in his name and in the names of his former coworkers and current RT,s that are at the front lines of the COVID-19 battle in Sudbury. The goal is to raise funds so that the Respiratory Therapy department at Health Sciences North can purchase essential PPE‘s for their department.

Even if the endeavour only brings in a small amount of money, this fundraiser can raise the awareness of the very difficult job that RT’s have!

We appreciate any monetary donation that can be made, but also as important, is to share with you the role Respiratory  Therapists play in our every day lives.

Nam Le’s Story
My step-father, Nam Le, has quite an interesting story about how he came to be an RT and has always been the “quiet” one despite his long and successful career, and I would like to honour his contribution by running this fundraiser in his name.  Nam is from Vietnam and came to Canada in the late 1970 as one of the Vietnamese “boat people”.  He was a doctor in Vietnam and when he came to Canada he had to go back to medical school in order to re-certify .  He then went back to school again to study Respiratory Therapy.  He spent almost as much time in school as in his career.  He spent the majority of his career in Sudbury working at all three hospital including The General, Memorial and Laurentian hospitals (now Health Sciences North).   And during the time he was in school and starting his career, he managed to sponsor (a very expensive procedure) his mother and father, his brother, sister and his son to Canada.  I have heard countless stories from his coworkers on the positive impact Nam has has on his patients lives.  Nam Is truly the embodiment of a proud Canadian who spent his career giving life-saving breath to his patients.  This fundraiser is honouring him and all the RT’s who are working directly with COVID-19 patients.
