Support for Our Stratton Teammates Impacted by Hurricane Melissa
Each winter, Stratton Mountain Resort is proud to welcome more than 150 teammates from Jamaica who help make our resort the extraordinary place it is. They are lift operators, housekeepers, cooks, dishwashers, snowmakers and our friends — the heart of our mountain community. Many return year after year, becoming part of the Stratton family and playing an essential role in creating the experiences our guests love.
In late October, Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica with devastating force, especially in the Black River area — home to many of our Jamaican team members and their families. The storm destroyed homes, flooded neighborhoods, and left widespread loss in its wake. Our teammates here in Vermont have shared stories of family members displaced, homes without power, and belongings washed away.
In the days since the storm, employees, homeowners, and guests have all asked the same question: “How can we help?” This fund is our collective answer.
All proceeds from this campaign will go directly to Stratton employees from Jamaica (and their families) who have been personally impacted by the hurricane. Funds will be distributed to help them purchase generators, repair or rebuild homes, and replace furnishings, appliances, and clothing lost in the wind and floodwaters.
Our goal is to provide meaningful support, quickly and equitably, to those who give so much of themselves to our mountain each season. Thank you for joining us in caring for the people who make Stratton what it is — a community defined by heart, resilience, and connection.
Transparency Statement:
This fundraiser was created by Stratton Mountain Resort's Human Resources Team, located in Stratton, Vermont, to support our seasonal employees from Jamaica who were directly impacted by Hurricane Melissa. Funds will be distributed through a resort program solely for this purpose, managed by the executive team and external auditors to ensure that 100% of donations go directly to active Stratton employees in need.
Donations will help these employees and their families purchase generators, building materials, home furnishings, clothing, and other essentials lost in the storm. No funds will be used for administrative or resort purposes, and Stratton Mountain Resort will provide oversight and documentation of all distributions to ensure transparency and accountability. Due to conditions outside of our control, donations are not eligible for documentation for tax exemption purposes. Note: GoFundMe deducts standard processing fees from each donation, in order to host the campaign.
