The Greener Kitchen's Food Relief Efforts

The Greener Kitchen, a 100% vegan deli located in the Pigtown community of Baltimore, MD, has been participating in food relief efforts around the city during this difficult time. The Greener Kitchen is a mission-based full-service deli that has set out to make plant-based foods accessible and affordable to everyone - with a particular focus on making these foods available in low-income black and brown communities.
With the recent restrictions imposed on people in U.S. cities due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, there has been a considerable strain put on people in marginalized communities who often are most impacted by economic and social disruptions. The Greener Kitchen has been working to fill in food insecurity gaps in some of the most marginalized communities with donations of healthy, plant-based foods to Baltimore-area families through neighborhood food giveaways.
It’s recently been reported that black people make up 70% of Covid-19 deaths, with underlying conditions like hypertension and heart disease being major contributing factors to these deaths. While the majority of food donations being donated to these communities consist of near-expired meat, dairy and egg products, The Greener Kitchen is committed to getting nourishing plant-based foods to the people who need them the most.
