UPDATE FEB 2022: Thanks to additional donations made outside of the GoFundMe platform, this project has been successfully concluded.
----
Welcome to the Menzies Bust Project - a project combining art, history, and botany.
Our goal is to reproduce a copy of the world’s only bust of Archibald Menzies, located at Van Dusen Garden in Vancouver, Canada, and send the duplicate to Castle Menzies in Scotland for visitors to enjoy.
PHASE ONE: Reproduce the mold - $2,000
PHASE TWO: Re-cast the sculpture - $11,650
Sending the new bust to Castle Menzies will enhance the visitor experience and will help others learn about the remarkable life and achievements of one of Scotland’s greatest botanists.
Our aim is to have to the work completed and sent to castle Menzies by August 2021
The original bust was made by Canada's celebrated artist Jack Harman (1927-2001) in 1987 and is believed to be the only bust of Archibald Menzies in the world. The bust has been meticulously reproduced by his son Stephen Harman.
The project was initiated by Ted Menzies (Alberta, Canada) and Graeme Menzies (Vancouver, Canada) and continues with the support of many other people from across Canada and around the world. The project welcomes support from botanists, plant lovers, gardeners, historians, artists, genealogists, castle lovers, explorers, and naturalists everywhere.
Your support is enthusiastically encouraged and greatly appreciated.
