Transition Afghan Refugees

Donation protected
Today I turn 48 and have lived 47 of those years here in the United States. What a blessing it is to be a US citizen.

47 years ago, my family arrived to the the US as refugees from the Vietnam war. Still an infant too young to understand, I grew up enjoying the freedoms that living in America provides, especially the freedom from fear. While accepting Vietnamese refugees was a contentious political topic then, I grew up only knowing of the American courage, acceptance, and generosity which has propelled me to the life I have today.

We have watched in disbelief the situation of Afghanistan evacuees unfold just last week, and their plight resonates through my whole being. Life will not be well for awhile. They have left family members behind, and will need to acclimate to a new culture and way of living. The refugees will need to muster the strength to begin a new life - far from the life they knew - learn English, the monetary system/banking, shopping, schooling, jobs, etc.

I know the American spirit is still alive and well - that very spirit which provided my family and I a fresh start. The helping hand and generosity that is uniquely strong here in America is what these families will need to get past the trauma of the past 2 weeks and to live a fulfilled and purposed life here in their new home.

I have a blessed life, and for my birthday choose to pass that blessing onto the Afghan refugees. Please join me!
