FAMILY: Warm, Loving, Caring, Kind, Smiling, Fun, Music, Dancing, Memories, Great People to be around! These are the words that come to mind when one thinks of Family. We were all being Family on October 24, 2020 honoring the life (and birth) of the Family’s 92-year-old matriarch. Family arrived from Chicago, Wichita, Memphis, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, and other parts of the country to honor the Life of Elizabeth Hunt Pitts. Everything from the funeral service, to singing happy birthday at the burial grave site, and having dinner at the funeral repast were all happening as planned. As we continued the celebration outside a relative’s home, evil swept through our Family like a swift wind…
A gunman armed with a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle approached our Family gathering and opened fire without any regard for human life. After the shooting stopped, the gunman fled into the darkness leaving behind screams, tears, blood, and lifeless bodies. A total of 11 Family members were injured with three requiring surgery and two fatalities, Jonathan "Terrell" and Katrina "Trina" Pitts. On this day, our Family added Trauma, Heartache, Pain, Fear, and Sadness to our definition.
This act of evil has left a void in our Family: Spiritually, Emotionally, Psychologically, and Physically. It has also placed a tremendous Financial burden on those injured during this horrific act of violence. As our Family prepares to lay to rest a brother and sister who died together that night, we ask for your PRAYERS. We also ask if YOU would think of those lost and injured during this tragedy and Support our road to recovery and healing. The funds donated will go towards assisting the immediate Family of the deceased as well as those that were injured to aide with medical expenses, lost wages, moving expenses, and professional services for mental health treatment. A donation of any size will help aide our Family and ease the burdens we are facing.
Please keep our Family in your thoughts and prayers as we try to find normalcy, peace, and happiness again. While we do not know why this act of evil was unleased on our Family, we still believe Good can come from this tragedy. We still believe Justice and Change can come from this tragedy. Most importantly, we still believe Love will outlast hate and Light will shine through darkness because the soul of humanity will help illuminate our path. Our Family is grateful for the outpour of support and prayers and we will continue to pray for the healing of Our nation.
