With the announcement of school closures for another week due to the Covid19 outbreak, several Watertown South Dakota area organizations have come together to form Watertown Community Cares (WCC). WCC will collect and distribute nonperishable food items to families with school age children to assure no child goes hungry during this time and any member of the community who has a need. A food drive and monetary collection is now underway to begin the process of collecting and purchasing items needed.
Items requested are as follows: Boxed meals (Hamburger or Tune Helper type), Peanut Butter, Spaghettios/Ravioli, Macaroni & Cheese, Pop Tarts, Cereal, Granola/Cereal Bars, Ramen Noodles, Crackers, 100% Juice, Spaghetti Sauce, Noodles, Canned Vegetables, Fruit, Tuna, Chicken, and Soups.
With CDC recommendation of social distancing, WCC is also seeking monetary donations to keep everyone safe. WCC can provide a meal for pennies on the dollar, but need your financial support to continue our efforts.
Non-Perishable and monetary donations can be dropped off at the Watertown Area Salvation Army, 621 4th St SE or Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 2001 2nd St NW. Checks can be made to the Salvation Army and in the memo line include Watertown Community Cares.
Organizations that have come together include; 4 the Kids SD, Salvation Army, PACH, Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Watertown Love, Boys & Girls Club, and First United Methodist Church.
Distribution will be Thursdays at 4PM at the Boys& Girls Club. Participants can enter from Arrow Ave from Highway 81 beginning at 4PM. Law enforcement and volunteers will direct traffic to the distribution point. No early line up will be allowed. Vehicles may start lining up at 4PM.
