Mark Somervell's Medical Fund
Spende geschützt
We are posting this fund request for a wonderful employee of ours, Mark Somervell (age 21), who was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident yesterday. While there is no one who has come forth as a witness to the accident, Mark's bike went down on the Angeles Forest Highway around 2:30 pm on Saturday.
As a result of the accident, his left leg was amputated above the knee and Doctors at Huntington Memorial in Pasadena, CA worked hard to re-attach the right leg. His body seems to be accepting the re-attachment as he has good blood flow, however there is some dead muscle tissue that has to be removed in a surgery first thing tomorrow. Our prayers are that his right leg can be saved and this fine young man will have the ability to walk again.
His back is fractured and he has significant "road rash" on his back and left side that they are able to manage with pain medication right now. He has been awake and communicating via some written words but does not know what happened. He won't be allowed to speak for a while since he has all of the tubes down his throat.
Mark came from New Zealand to work for us as a Tree Trimmer a few months ago. His hopes were to become a Certified Arborist (Tree Surgeon) and go back home to eventually run his own company. He has no family here but his parents are flying in as quickly as they can to be by his side.
We have no idea what extent of bills will be involved as the Doctors say he will be in ICU for a minimum of two weeks and the amount of surgeries that needed to make him "whole" again. Regardless, this young man will be confined to a wheel chair for at least a year.
We will post more information as things progress ... Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Card or letters of encouragement can be sent to our office address:
