Face on the Ground | Dance in the Desert

Big Rig Dance Collective has been selected to present work at the 16th annual Dance in the Desert Festival on July 25-26, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada! Amanda Jackson and Meredith Knight’s "Face on the Ground," which began as an exploration of endurance, is an amalgamation of complex relationships and carefully crafted obstacles that are used to re-imagine gender roles, namely the female role in dance.
Amanda and Meredith, two of DFW’s fiery dancing redheads, have been collaborating since they met at Texas Woman’s University in 2007. During their time at TWU, they were the first undergraduate students to produce an evening-length concert, REDDye #40. The university awarded Amanda and Meredith the Pauline Bishop Leman Memorial Award for their outstanding artistic contributions to the university and DFW community. Since then, their collaborative repertoire has been presented by Weekend of Texas Contemporary Dance in Houston, Pilot: Choreographers Take Flight in Fort Worth, and The Exchange in Tulsa, OK. In 2012, the two received their M.F.A. Degrees in Dance from TWU and are currently teaching at local colleges along with residencies and master classes throughout Texas. Amanda and Meredith are founding members of Big Rig Dance Collective and recently premiered "Face on the Ground" at the Black Box in Denton, TX.
Big Rig Dance Collective is excited for the opportunity to present work outside of North Texas, and attendance at this festival will allow us to expand our audience base as well as network with other artists. We are always looking to develop new connections outside of the DFW dance community, to not only enrich our own community, but also to share our ideas and art with other individuals and organizations abroad. We also embrace opportunities to expand our aesthetic palettes by experiencing what other dance communities are making. At the festival, our dancers will perform to sold-out houses, see numerous new dance works, and take master classes from national dance professionals. Funds donated here will be used to cover festival costs and travel expenses for six performers. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated!
Projected Budget
Festival Participation & Production Fee: $75
Hotel for 5 nights: $500
Car Rental for 7 days: $800
Trailer Rental for 7 days (to house our large set): $200
Gas: $400
Per Diem for 6 dancers: $1000
Total: $2975
*All funds raised beyond our goal will be divided equally among the performers to cover additional expenses and artist fees.
As a thank you for your generous support, we have created a variety of rewards for you to enjoy after the festival performance. Even if you are unable to contribute at this time, you can still help by sharing the page on social media and through email. We would not have come this far without your continued support, and we cannot wait to share more of our excursion into the desert!
