Fairytale Farms Inc./Startup Costs
Donation protected
Hi there! My name is Sarah Mendenhall, & I just want to take a moment to thank you for reading our story. I am starting a new nonprofit organization in Montana, increasing our local community's access to organic food. We also specialize in community outreach and education about food, labeling, permaculture and organic methods.
We are raising funds today in order to get our organization officially incorporated so that we may begin doing business in our community as a non-profit organization. This requires review by both a lawyer and an accountant, which is what these funds will be used for. Any extra in the fund will go toward startup costs. Our goal is to be incorporated by January2016.
The History of Fairytale Farms
Fairytale Farms was founded by Boaz & Sarah Mendenhall in 2012 because they felt an overwhelming need to produce local organically grown food. Sarah in particular was unable to sit by and watch while her country and community “was poisoned and controlled” by a few big chemical companies effort to monopolize our food supply.
Fairytale Farms is dedicated to improving the food security of our local community. We are founded on the principles of sustainability and the belief that all life forms are sacred and connected.
We plan to offer a variety of services:
- Free food baskets to local families, seniors & vets in
need
- Farm products sold for suggested donation amounts at
our local area farmers' market outreach booths
- Public garden and natural concepts reference library
- Individual and community gardening lessons
- Group and community activities to teach agricultural
and food related concepts
- Community movie/knowledge presentations to
enhance local self-sustainability and general public
awareness about farm & garden issues
- Volunteer training and education
Our free, naturally grown baskets are distributed to members of our community who are in need. This along with the educational services that we provide will be our most impactful programs.
We will sponsor an informational booth at local area farmers' markets in order to provide our greater community at large free education about sustainable agriculture and permaculture principles. We provide the general public access to reasonably priced (suggested donation amount), healthy organic produce. We also offer relevant educational materials and information about our services.
Fairytale Farms will establish a community lending
library for educational materials focusing on sustainable
agriculture and permaculture principles.
In order to offer these services, we employ a small core
staff, as well as recruit able bodied adults and children
from the community and surrounding areas to volunteer in our gardens. We also plan to utilize the labors of people performing community service. Clients are encouraged but not required to volunteer. Disabled or elderly individuals are not expected to volunteer.
We have an excellent training program for these volunteers to teach them the principles of permaculture and organic gardening in a highly nurturing and engaging environment. Our model is easily replicated and we will establish satellite gardens in the future as we grow our organization.
I want to thank you so much for taking your time to read our story. God bless you if you feel moved to donate, and trust that 100% of your donation is going towards relieving food insecurity here in western Montana. Look for updates in the future!
