Family Lost All in Flood
Donation protected
Tuesday morning, August 21,2017 in Hillsdale, KS, my son and his wife, Michael and Miste Brown were awakened at 4:30 by another family member that water was coming into their house. They grabbed their pets, ran for the 2nd floor, woke their two sons, and were later rescued by the fire department.
A news video from Fox 4 News is available to view at:

The water rose about 4 ft on the main floor, damaging all the contents. One pig was lost, the 2nd was found safe.
With only $10K in flood insurance it won't begin to cover the cost of replacing everything. They lost 3 cars and 1 car that belongs to Miste's mom, who is also living with them. Only 2 cars had full coverage.
Their father Larry, and I own the house. While we do have gov't flood insurance on the house, it won't pay enough to cover all the repairs that are needed as it will not pay to bring it up to code. After demo began, we found that several exterior walls have trees for supports which will most likely have to be rebuilt.
There are no living expenses paid by the insurance. They are currently living in a camper trailer, on their property that a very generous neighbor has loaned them. There is no water to the trailer, so a friend asked the park services dept. at Hillsdale Lake for help; they are able to go and use the campground showers there at no charge.
We are hoping that with the generosity of others that they can begin to work their way back.
Michael began a new job last week, but he won't see a paycheck until Friday, 9/8. He was unable to work the week of the flood at all because of dealing with their situation, which meant he will be missing 3 weeks pay.
The money from your donations will go towards purchasing a vehicle, food and contents for the house.
If anyone is able to give information as to discounts on building materials or labor, or leads to a reliable car that Michael can use for work it would be very much appreciated!!!
