I am FatDag!
My military career was in jeopardy when I began failing a series of fitness tests. I was 91 pounds over weight . Instead of being kicked out, I was given a chance. That chance put me on this path to do everything I can to help make sure that no one goes through this process alone. I lost the 91 pounds and I want to help others get their life back.
The #1 Reason that the youth of today are unable to serve is related to Obesity. In addition, the amount of involuntary separations from the military that are health and fitness related is staggering. It's a largely untold story, but ask most everyone who has served, and they can tell you that the stress related to passing a fitness test is real. In many, cases causing eating disorders, and unnecessary physical injury. The societal influence is largely responsible so it’s time we attack this with preemptive education.
I completely changed my life by changing my lifestyle. The military fitness standards are set for a reason. Every graduate from Basic Military Training, or Officer Candidate school graduated within standards, but as they age, and the lack of nutritional information goes on, the problem goes untreated.
Often the first time help is offered is when it's too late. Operation FatDag is an IRS approved Non-Profit Corporation, formed in Indiana aimed to proactively treat the obesity crisis in our military. We strive to do that by stepping in early in the process with tools and education, to prevent the issues from developing later on in their career.
This initial GoFundMe Campaign is aimed to form the 501(c)(3) and cover the initial startup costs while we wait for the IRS approval for our 501(c)(3) status.
This is one of my favorite pieces of writing - I was able to capture my thoughs clearly with the keyboard. Whatever it Takes!
