Hello, my name is Alia Bellamy. I am a Peace Corps volunteer writing on the behalf of Vista al Rio, a rural community in Morazán, El Salvador of about 80 families.
In my 7 months spent here, I have been more than welcomed. Vista al Rio in such a short time has transformed from my host community to my home. Upon my first few days here, I locked myself out of my home and it could have been anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours before my host family returned. I ended up only waiting on the porch for no more than 20 minutes before they returned and in that short amount of time, 3 families had prepared food for me so I wouldn’t be hungry. At that point, they couldn’t even remember my name and I couldn’t find my way back home without first passing the same tree three times. What made this day memorable for me was, on average families make less that $5 a day having to feed on average 5 people. They barely make enough to feed and properly clothe themselves but there was no hestation when offering me their food.
This is why I am hosting this fundraiser. To help those in need. All donations will go towards food, personal hygiene and household products for the families in my community. The event is scheduled for December 11.
For every $25 raised, 1 family will receive:
Food
1. Rice
2. Beans
3. Milk
4. Potatoes
5. Oat Meal
6. Eggs
7. Cheese
8. Green Beans
9. Tomatoes
10. Apples
11. Bananas
12. Strawberries
13. Sugar
14. Salt
15. Cooking Oil
16. Coffee
Personal Hygiene Products

5. Sanitary Napkins
6. Shampoo
7. Deodorant
8. Toothpaste
Household Products
1. Bleach
2. Laundry Soap
3. Toilet Tissue
4. Dish Soap
5. Floor Cleaner
If you include your email address in the comments or send it to my email, I'd love to send you pictures of the event and families you've donated to.
If you have any questions, please email me at [email redacted]. As you can imagine, as a volunteer, I don't have access to a reliable internet connection every day so please give me a day or two to respond.

Meet Michele. The first person to greet me when I arrived. One day, while I attented a meeting, I let her play with my phone. Less than an hour later, I got my phone back with over 200 photos of everything from selfies to blurry pictures of her toes lol
