Purl and I Need Help
Donation protected
Yesterday evening Purl injured her leg. I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but my theory is she got a bit of wire wrapped around her leg and panicked. Part of the skin and muscle was stripped off the upper part of her leg. I left the kids with their dad and rushed her to the 24 hour vet clinic. They operated immediately and were able to save her leg, though we will just have to wait and see how she heals.
Purl is a 7 year old Great Pyrenees mix who works as a livestock guardian dog (LGD). She loves her sheep and is very vigilant, keeping them safe from predators - coyotes, bobcats, but mostly other dogs. I have never lost a sheep or goat to predators with her on patrol. She's that good! I rescued Purl two years ago when her prior owner sold her goats and was going to send Purl to the animal shelter. Whether or not Purl can return to her work as a livestock guardian, she will always live here on the farm with us. If she can't work, she can retire in peace and become a house dog. She has certainly earned it. Personally, I think she would be delighted to get back out in the pasture again, if she's able. She's one of my tribe, and I'm going to look after her.
Once Purl heals, I would like to get involved in Great Pyrenees rescue. I was already part way through the foster application process with the Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue when this happened. If you can spare a little to help Purl get healed, I would greatly appreciate it. I will pay it back in spades over the coming years, helping other Great Pyrenees guardian dogs find their way to a better life.
