Kidney Transplant for Flick
Donation protected
Kevin Flick carries numerous titles: dad, husband, graduate student, recording engineer, friend. Kevin is a father of two amazing young girls, and has been happily married sixteen years with Mindy. But he also carries the title of dialysis patient.
In the fall of 2011, Kevin, known to his friends as 'Flick,' started a Masters program at Indiana University, studying Human Computer Interaction Design. Two weeks into the program he began to have intense headaches. Thinking it was simply a sinus infection, a visit to the clinic initiated a process of testing. In December, 2011, a kidney biopsy confirmed that Kevin has FSGS (focal segmental glomerulosclerosis), a debilitating chronic kidney disease that almost always leads to kidney failure.
In three years, Kevin's kidney function fell from 35% to under 10%, and in October, 2013, he started dialysis. Eight months later, Kevin had endured a total of six surgeries, an abdominal infection, a gall bladder attack and removal surgery, and multiple stays in the hospital. He's now undergoing peritoneal dialysis treatments every night at home.
Kevin is a hard worker and a fighter. He nearly finished his Masters degree in spite of the illness, and until he was recently laid off he continued to work, editing audio on his laptop for a syndicated radio program. He also worked to produce and manage a local solo artist, releasing an album despite his health challenges. He remains actively involved at his local church, Evangelical Community Church in Bloomington, running sound on Sunday mornings and helping as a volunteer with the youth group.
The Flick family has experienced many setbacks recently and desperately need your support. Kevin was laid off from his audio engineering job due to company cutbacks. Recent changes in the healthcare laws have forced him to switch insurance. His insurance previously covered 100% of his costs, but now only covers 80%. A donor is in the final stages of approval for a kidney transplant that will help save Kevin’s life. In addition, Kevin will need to take expensive anti-rejection medication for the rest of his life. With the coming transplant, the family needs your help raising financial support for Kevin’s medical bills and transplant medications. Please consider partnering with them in this difficult situation. Make a donation today, and share this page with your family, friends, and contacts.
You may also make tax-deductible donations via a fund set up by the Flick’s church. Make checks payable to Evangelical Community Church and designate with “Flick Medical Fund.” Mail to the address below:
