This page is for Socks. He’s my heart and soul; and we are in need of desperate help. Socks is a 10 year old tabby with a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Over the past 6 months, Socks has lost 1/2 of his body weight. He went from being 22 lbs down to 12.2 lbs. I took Socks to the animal hospital and paid $1,000 for test and blood work. They were still unclear of his diagnosis at that time, but gave me medicine- pills to stimulate his appetite.
As of last week, Socks refused to eat or drink anything at all. I force fed him baby food through a syringe until I got paid and could take him to the vet. During this time, Socks lost his ability to use his hind legs. He could only go a few steps without stopping and laying down again. My cat was dying right before my eyes and I still had to wait 3 more days until payday to take him to the ER.
When we did get there, they performed repeat blood work, an ultrasound, and a chest x-ray. He was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and dehydration. His heart was greatly enlarged, but it is still unclear why he is not eating or drinking.
This visit cost me $1,353 and the hospital was furious with me that I could only pay $1,000 right then and there. They explained no further tests or medications will be performed unless I pay beforehand. Socks is still pending an ECHO test for his heart, a consult with the cardiologist, an ultrasound for his hind legs, more specific blood work testing, and medication. The appetite stimulator medicine did help Socks and he does eat when given this medicine. I also saw that when he ate, he gained more strength to use his hind legs. I have paid the ER hospital more than $2,000 to help my cat, but they will no longer give me the medicine Socks needs without the funds upfront. I will give every last penny I have to help Socks. I have done just that; and even used my rent money for this month to help my cat.
I cannot find the words to describe the bond I have with Socks. He’s in pain and I’m in pain with him. I’m HIS MOTHER and he depends on me for the things he needs. The heartbreak I feel for him is unreal. I’m desperate for help and now have turned to the compassion and generosity of others to help keep my cat alive. I do not want to imagine a world without Socks in it- if you had the chance to meet him, you would see why. I reach out to anybody who has ever felt that love and bond to an animal they had- present or past. Socks’ condition IS treatable. Socks CAN get well again with the medicine he needs. Socks needs a miracle and we are hanging onto hope. PLEASE, PLEASE help me in the fight to save my cat’s life I beg you, on behalf of my best friend Socks, Please donate to our cause. I would be forever grateful. For the sake of a mother’s love, please help me keep my boy alive.
