Help FIRST Robotics Team 5592
Donation protected
We are Far North Robotics, team number 5592 in the FIRST Robotics Competition, based in Cairns, Australia. Our team consists of students from Trinity Anglican School and volunteer mentors with experience in robotics and engineering.
Each year, FIRST Robotics Competition teams take 6 weeks to build a 50 kg robot from scratch to enter in a worldwide competition. Teams need to raise funds to support registration fees, the purchase of materials and parts, and travel to the competition, which in our case is in Sydney.
Cairns is a small regional city, and compared to the teams based in the capital cities, we don't have access to a lot of the big-name corporations and universities that are able to sponsor teams. Local companies are already strapped for community funding. This makes fundraising very difficult for us. In addition, we face a number of expenses - such as air travel, freight shipping, and local accommodation - that teams located closer to Sydney do not. Consider that the majority of the Australian teams, which are located in New South Wales, Victoria, and southeast Queensland, are able to drive to Sydney in under a day, whereas for us that is impossible!
This is an important program designed to introduce students to how exciting STEM fields can be. In addition to learning about robotics and engineering, students work with professional engineers who mentor the team, giving them an opportunity to understand what engineering is really about and what careers are open to them. Travel to the Sydney competition lets them meet like-minded students from different backgrounds and different countries, as well as introducing them to the scholarship and post-secondary study opportunities available to them. This program can change lives, and we want our students to be full on participants.
Please consider supporting us, even with a small donation. We will put it towards parts for our robot and toward defraying the costs of travel to Sydney for our students. We would be pleased to name any person or organisation donating $500 or more as an Official Sponsor (to be recognised in print on our robot, t-shirts, website, etc), and any supporter at any level who can make it to Cairns or to Sydney while we're at the regional is welcome to try their hand at driving our robot!
Thank you for your support. This is an important program that opens up many new opportunities for these students. We appreciate you helping them be a part of it.
