Future Roots Project

Future Roots Project is a grassroots based venture dedicated to assisting in the implementation of sustainable solutions to the realities of child illiteracy and malnutrician in El Pantanal, Nicaragua. We have teamed up with public schools, Rotary Club, and community groups where we volunteer all our time to improving the learning conditions, by providing much needed support to teachers. We believe we have a responsibility to invest our time and energy into the young people; our activities are interactive and educational with themes of sustainability, empowerment, and community.

Nicaragua is the 2nd poorest country on this side of the planet after Haiti, making for a slue of economic, social and political problems.
Malnutrician, Illiteracy, Women's Rights, Unemployment, Drug & Alcohol Abuse, Child Abuse, Domestic Abuse, Housing, Contamination, Child Labor, Treatment of Animals, and Glue Sniffing Street Kids.

Knowing that illiteracy and malnutrition are rampant realities in Nicaragua and that 66% of the population is under 24 years old, it was clear our skills matched the critical needs of these young Nicaraguans.  Children are literally the future of this country.

Jaime is a literacy specialist who previously worked in the Mpls Public Schools and now dedicates her time to improving the schools in Nicaragua.

Liz is a Chef who regularly worked on community food programs in the Twin Cities area and is now working on sustainable gardening and creative arts projects with children in Nicaragua.

Nicaraguans have taught us to be tough, adaptable, understanding, and resilient. Never forget, everything is a learning opportunity.
We are happier than we have ever been and we are working harder than we ever have. We are proud of what we have accomplished and the relationships we have made from the Ministry of Education to the masses of children who seek us out asking to read, watercolor, sing, or play Simon Says.  We have laid the foundation that makes it possible to do big things.

But the truth is, we can't do it without your support!  We are more than willing to do the hands on, day-to-day work, but we need your help. Every dollar raised for the children of Nicaragua, goes farther than it ever could in the United States.  Phase one of our project was possible because of generous donations from our family, friends, and community; upon our return to Nicaragua we are excited to raise our goal to $10,000.00.  Together we can directly improve the lives of the children of Pantanal.

Plant the seeds of change & grow strong rooted communities.
