Support for Josh

Hi. My name is Mendy. I am honored to say that I am friends with Josh Lucas and would like to take a minute to tell his story. On behalf of his family, I, and many of his friends are doing what we can to raise funds to help them out while they are going through this tragedy with Josh.
Many of the people who will visit this page already know Josh and what a wonderful person he is, but for those who don't I will try my best to tell you about him and what he is going through.
Josh Lucas was raised in Breckinridge County, Ky.  I don't know of a single person who knows Josh who could say an unkind word about him.  He is kind hearted and is the type of person who will do anything he can for anyone.  He is one of those guys who was raised right, and it shows. He especially loves his family.  He is a big momma's boy and doesn't care who knows it.  He's as country as can be and loves to spend his days with family and friends usually outdoors doing something fun.  He loves to play the guitar and ride his motorcycle. He loves his wife, his family, and his friends and has been looking forward to his future when he could return home to them.
Josh enlisted in the Army in 2010 and has been serving our country ever since.  He has been deployed to Afghanistan and Jordan and has been in some very dangerous situations.  Many people have been praying for him and worrying for his safety since the day he left, but never imagined that he would be on his home soil and experience the tragedy that he has experienced.
Josh has most recently been stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. On Sunday, October 19th, Josh's life was turned upside down.  While driving his motorcycle in El Paso, a car pulled out in front of him and he was unable to avoid the collision that now has him fighting for his life.  He is in good hands at the Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso in critical condition and on life support.  His family and military brothers are at his side around the clock.
Day by day, more and more details about the extent of his injuries are becoming known.  We know that God is answering our prayers and that He has a plan and a purpose for Josh.  The injuries he sustained are very severe and it is thanks to God that he has survived and continues to show signs of improvement.
Josh has multiple skull fractures which initially caused his brain to swell and bleed.  He also has multiple spinal fractures including the C1 and C7 vertebrae.  With those injuries, you would expect that he would be either paralyzed, unable to breathe on his own, or worse, but all the prayers for him are working and so he is not paralyzed and before he was placed on the ventilator, he was even breathing on his own! Josh is strong and he is fighting every day.  He is sedated and on a ventilator for now. His condition is critical, but he is stable.  His vital signs have been good the entire time despite all the injuries. He has already had one procedure to place drains in his brain and a monitor to show the pressure in his brain.  Currently his numbers are good, his swelling has gone down to safe levels, and the bleeding has stopped.  He will be having surgery in the very near future to attempt to repair and stabilize his spine.
There are multiple other injuries that Josh will need to recover from as well, but these are the most serious. Josh has a very long road ahead of him and his recovery will be a long one.   Josh is over 1200 miles from home. His family made the long agonizing 24+ hour drive to be with Josh and some will remain at his side until he comes home.  With the long hospital stay and seriousness of his injuries, their expenses will be unimaginable.  This is where we (you) come in!
Throughout his life, Josh has made an impression on a lot of people.  He has developed lifelong friendships through his military travels and has a large body of people who truly care about him and want to help him and his family in some way.  If all of us who care about Josh or even those who don't know him but read his story and feel led to help in some way can come together, we could make a difference for him.  Beyond praying for Josh, I would like to invite you to make a donation on his behalf.  There are several fundraising endeavors going on for Josh right now along with this one and the hope is that we can help cover some of his medical expenses and the travel expenses that his family is incurring.
Please donate what you can and know that you will be making a difference for him.  Also, please visit his page "Prayers for Joshua" on Facebook to learn of other fundraising events occurring in his home town.
Thank you for your prayers and support.  I know that the Lucas family will be forever grateful to each of you!
