Shortly after arriving to take part in our Taekwon-do group summer camp at Shell Island, Geoff and Vic had just set up their tent and due to the extremely strong winds were in the process of boiling the kettle in their tent for a cup of tea.
Unknown to them the stove was fault and had leaked a full can of gas inside the tent which ignited into a massive fireball as Geoff bent down to lift the kettle off.
The whole tent erupted in flames and Geoff stumbled out engulfed in flames, Vic was trapped inside the inferno. Only the quick reactions of the few of us that had arrived, saved the situation from becoming much worse, Vic was dragged from the tent with her hair burnt and suffering from burns to her leg. Geoff on the other hand had taken the full force of the blast and had to lie under to tap of the water point near our encampment. By the time the ambulances arrived it was clear that Geoff's burns were quite severe, but just as worryingly as he was drenched in cold water, the strong wind had chilled him to the core and he was now also suffering from the effects of hypothermia.
Geoff is now receiving care at the specialist burns unit in Whiston, Liverpool and faces a lengthy recovery from severe 3rd degree burns to his hands and face (see the pictures) and he's going to be off work for a while so we think it would be great to help a genuinely nice guy with his recovery.
Please give whatever you can, every little helps.
Thanks
Al.
