Supporting Tyrone Gilks' Family
The motocross community is helping the Gilks Family by raising money to cover their legal costs.
Tyrone Gilks was a well known Freestyle Motocross rider. As soon as he got on a bike, all he wanted to do was break records and be the world's best.
With the support of his family, he was able to do this, no one wanted to hold him back. Tryone became the youngest person to land a backflip (12 years old), broke the 65cc distance world record (12 years old), 85cc distance world record and the 125cc distance world record.
The only record Tyrone wasn't holding was the 250cc distance record. With a tonne of convincing by Tyrone, his family and friends helped Tyrone chase his dream for the 250cc record. With years planning and working with the worlds best FMX riders, he was to attempt his world record at Maitland Showground on March 23rd 2013.
Leading up to the date, Tyrone was practicing at the location, pulling the ramp distance back bit by bit after countless successful jumps. On the morning of March 21st, in front of his family and friends, Tyrone misjudged his speed and fell short of the landing by less than a metre. The heavy impact fatally injured Tyrone. His father, Kevin, gave Tyrone CPR until the ambulance arrived minutes later. Tyrone passed away later that day in hospital with his family by his side.
It was a gut wrenching time for the family and has also impacted thousands of riders and fans around the world.
Unfortunately, the hard times haven't ended for the Gilks family. As required under state law, a coroner's investigation was launched into Tyrone's accident. The family had to hire legal representation to ensure that all aspects of the inquest were conducted with balance. It's a very complex process.
This Coroner's Inquest has finally been completed, finding that Tyrone had used his own judgement when attempting the record. Due to the need for legal representation, the Gilks family has incurred significant legal costs.
It annoyed the motocross community to hear that the Gilks family have had to struggle with this huge cost over legal fees, investigating their son's death.
The Gilks family, in their modest style, have not asked for any assistance. This GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by the motocross community to give them a helping hand when they need it most. We hope this brings a start to a brighter future for the Gilks family.
Your small donation will be highly appreciated, thank you all in advance.
