Girls For A Change
Donation protected
Girls For A Change (GFC) is a national organization that empowers girls to reach their full potential and create positive change in their own neighborhoods by helping them find their voice and engineer solutions to problems in their community. (video)
I chose Girls For A Change as my platform for homecoming court because when I was in middle school, I was in the Excelencia Program which was a club for Hispanic girls that had the same mission as Girls for A Change, but it was only open for girls in Crosby Scholars. They really inspired me to believe in myself and work hard and dream big. Girls For A Change is for /any/ girl that needs someone to guide them and assure them that they can become successful, independent women. All donations made will be going directly to Girls For A Change to help fund GFC Action Teams and their projects for change in their communities.
Women make up over 50% of the United States' population, but based on the number of women in leadership positions, really only 10% of the population could be women (http://cdn.americanprogress.org/) .The world needs more innovative, intelligent women to build upon the foundations built by their predecessors and pave the way for generations to come. We need fresher minds and new perspectives. And it all starts with the girls.
Anything helps! Thank you, Celeste Cervantes
