"Hi my name is Aiden. I am 6 years old, going into the first grade and I love video games and Legos. My favorite things to do are playing with my little brother and visiting with my grandparents. My favorite show is SpongeBob. My favorite game is Minecraft. I like riding my scooter, and playing outside. I played soccer and just started Karate...."
On July 15 I took my son to the doctor because I notice that something wasn’t right. He was pale and tired all the time, wasn’t interested in playing, swimming or minecrafting. He was just too tired. I noticed his scars were not healing, and he was bruising easily. The doctor ordered lab work and we waited for the results. We got a call; he was severely anemic and needed a blood transfusion right away. The following morning he needed a bone marrow test to determine what was wrong. The test results came back; he was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. As a parent this news is devastating. There are no words to describe the pain you feel when your child is hurting. Treatment started immediately and will take up to 3+ years to be complete.
In less than a month Aiden’s life has changed. Taking medicine every day and chemo every week. Dealing with the side affects, and the worst part for him, dealing with needles. He will not be able to attend the first grade or have play dates with friends. He will not be riding his scooter, playing soccer or going to karate. It hurts me to see his life put on hold for so long.
Aiden keeps a smile on his face, and is trooper! He is supporting us while we support him. He is strong so that we can be strong.
