Our Neurodiverse Academic Journey
Donation protected
We have been blessed with 4 little boys and not one of them is "neurotypical."
That being said, after several years of IEP's and public schooling, we feel God is leading us to provide a diverse, unconventional schooling experience in order to capitalize on each of our child's strengths and provide intensive support for those areas they struggle in.
Learning from home and public experiences will give our children the best possible foundation for college and beyond. Our goal is to create in each of them a love for learning and a thirst to continue to expand their knowledge as they move into adulthood. No more tears because they are behind, or because the environment is too noisy. No more being picked on at recess. Just love, support, and nurture to help them reach their full potential in a positive environment.
Autistic kiddos also need a great deal of social growth. We plan to build their skills in this area with regular public interraction and in peer group settings such as Special Olympics, group activities such as after school music classes, church, and other community activities as they become available.
Because we will not be subscribing to traditional schooling techniques, there will be some cost incurred for materials, especially in the initial "classroom" setup. We have never been the kind of people to ask for help with such things, but we believe so much in this opportunity God has given us, we feel it is appropriate to reach out for help at any level. Each and every penny will be a blessing to us and spent wisely!
I really have no idea how much this will all cost over time. The goal provided is just an estimate. We will be starting the first year with the oldest two and bringing in the other two as we get adjusted.
Examples of materials we wish to acquire:
2 Laptop Computers
1-2 Large Dry Erase Boards
Bookshelves
Organizational Materials
Admissions to Local Organizations (Science Center, Aquarium, Children's Museum, Music Academy, etc...)
Curriculum Materials
Books
Microscope
Learning Posters
Art Supplies
Copy Paper
(If we can acquire any of these items discounted or in gently used condition, we will.)
Your prayers are greatly appreciated as we take on this task of teaching a very diverse group of little smarty pants kiddos! We thank you so VERY much for you time in reading this and for your willingness to support and believe in these kids. They are going to do great things for God someday, we just know it!
God bless!
