Greenway Spanish to Costa Rica
Donation protected
Spanish students from Greenway High School (GHS) in Coleraine, MN are planning a 9 day trip to Costa Rica in March 2018. Greenway High is a small (average graduating class of 80 students), rural high school in the Iron Range of northern Minnesota that includes students from the surrounding small towns and communities. Coleraine is a long ways from Central America so students are fundraising to offset the $3,000 cost of the trip.
This trip to Costa Rica will provide Greenway students with opportunities that otherwise they would not have; opportunities to see the world beyond northern Minnesota, to learn about Costa Rican culture and to be immersed in the Spanish language.
Donations to this Gofundme site will be divided up among the students. If you would like to donate to a specific student, please type their name in the "comments" section when you donate.
¡Gracias for giving Greenway Spanish students an opportunity of a lifetime!
While in Costa Rica, Greenway Spanish students will:
* Participate in a Craft Workshop in the artisan town of Sarchí to learn about the history and the methods
* Visit with Costa Rican students at a school in the town of San Carlos to practice speaking Spanish with the students and to discover the similarities and differences between a typical Costa Rican school day and their school day at Greenway.
* View the Arenal Volcano, among the most active volcanoes in the world.
Learn about the ingredients and techniques used in traditional Costa Rican cooking.
* Explore the Monteverde Cloud Forest which is home to more than 400 species of birds, 100 species of mammals and 2,500 species of plants.
* Explore Manuel Antonio National Park on the Pacific Ocean to understand the value and importance of preserving endangered species.
* Take part in a traditional Costa Rican dance lesson to experience Costa Rican music.
