Gregory Johnson Memorial Fund

According to police, about 9:56 a.m., Gregory B. Johnson Sr., 63, of Plant City was eastbound on East Park Road when he stopped his vehicle near Corportate Center Lane to render aid to Juan Oquendo, 70, of Plant City, who had items fall from his 2007 Chrysler minivan onto the road.

Oquendo was backing up the minivan to allow Johnson to load the items, but when he was trying to stop he mistakenly pressed the accelerator. The minivan struck and backed up over Johnson.

Johnson died at the scene.
