Stop suicide in memory of my sons
Donation protected
On Tuesday, October 28, 2014, I received a phone call that changed my life forever. I was urged to come home and my thoughts immediately went back to a similar call four years ago. Four years ago, my oldest son committed suicide two weeks shy of his 18th birthday. In spite of my prayers and pleas as I made my way home, I learned that my second oldest son had just killed himself, a month after his 16th birthday.
I did not think this could happen twice. My son Tre’s had become my hope after my oldest son, Kirk, died. I moved from an urban fast paced city where teens, especially males, struggle to stay alive to a slower pace of life in the Midwest. I thought my boys had a chance. Suicide is the second leading cause of youth deaths in Minnesota.
Over 5 million youth suffer from depression and a sense of hopelessness. In memory of my sons and all other children who commit suicide or are even contemplating it, I have decided to find a way to heal and empower myself and others. Instead of focusing on the deaths, I want to celebrate their lives and work with others to reduce suicide rates through community education and outreach and offering prevention services.
Please consider a donation to help me get started. Some of my plans include: • Partnering with local schools to bring more suicide prevention awareness programs to the youth • Raise awareness by supporting local organizations • Sponsor forums to facilitate open discussions on suicide
We have to talk about it and be about it. Help me do this in memory of my sons.
