My name is Laekyn Etheridge. On August 16, 2014, at the very young age of 2 years old, I was diagnosed with leukemia. I went into remission in September of 2014 and relapsed on June 22, 2015. From then I was admitted back into Texas Children's Hospital to start chemo to get back into remission. I underwent my bone marrow transplant on November 4th, 2015 and I celebrated my 100th day since my bone marrow transplant on February 12th, 2016 and on that day I got news that I was still in remission! On March 15th, 2015, a few days after having my second bone marrow biopsy since my transplant, my mommy got a call from the doctors. I have relapsed again and this time the odds weren't good. I have what is called Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Childhood acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. AML is also called acute myelogenous leukemia, acute myeloblastic leukemia, acute granulocytic leukemia, and acute nonlymphocytic leukemia. Cancers that are "acute" usually get worse quickly if they are not treated. The doctors gave my family news that I would only have 5-6 months left to be with them. We are praying for a miracle now and my family is trying to make the most of the time I have left.
My mommy made this gofundme page, because I can’t use a computer yet, in the hopes that whoever sees it will make a donation to help offset some of the costs accumulated from my hospital stays, blood work, testing, treatments, prescriptions, and to help me make the most of the time I have left.
