Update on Rose
First of all I would like to thank everyone for their support. Second, the purpose of this post is to update. My one year colonoscopy resulted in 3 negative biopsies, and I am still being closely monitored by hematology/oncology. Two surgeries and recovery last year took me away from my occupation for more than 3 months. The time I was able to work, I was only working part time. I now have no income. I still have an outstanding medical bill, monthly bills, and necessities of life. Any assistance during this difficult time would be a lifeline. Thank you for your continued support and love. Everyone please be careful and stay safe.
Rose Smith was diagnosed with colon cancer. She was admitted to Spartanburg Regional from the ER with critical hemoglobin levels on January 2, 2019. The next day, a colonoscopy and endoscopy showed an irritated esophagus, 15+ stomach ulcers, and a tumor at the end of her large intestine.Doctors worked her into their surgery schedule the next day and extracted the cancer and rerouted her intestines.
Rose’s surgical pathology results give her the “best, worst case scenario” prognosis. With clear margins and lymph nodes testing negative, doctors believe the cancer has not spread.
How do we know Rose? She is currently employed at Downtown Deli & Donuts, assists Lynn Polk at catered events, and is a dog walker and sitter. Rose worked at the Deli Korner for decades, and at Cribb’s Kitchen. You may also remember her from Palmetto Palate, The Peddler, Guitar Bar, Abby’s Grill, and Gerhardt’s. She is a professional, conscientious, and hard worker who cares about quality.
And Rose received quality care at Spartanburg Regional. Thanks to the efforts of Drs. Hugh James and Ryan Busch, Rose, at the young age of 53, can look forward to more quality years of life. Rose would like to see those who helped her receive payment. Rose’s hospital bill alone is more than $108,000, and she has no insurance due to the high cost of the policies. We have set a Go Fund Me goal of $60,000 and plan to finance or negotiate any balance. We ask that you donate any amount comfortable to you.
Rose will be monitored by hematology oncologist Dr. Dimbla every few months for years to come, and remains under the care of oncology surgeon Dr. James and gastroenterologist Dr. Busch.
Rose has said that she feels like the luckiest person on the planet, having survived this shocking ordeal with such a good potential outcome. She appreciates all the love and support shown by her friends throughout the Spartanburg community, and looks forward to getting out and seeing everyone!
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
