Hi! My name is Preston Fore, and I am a senior at Chattanooga Central High School. I have just recently been accepted into The School of The New York Times for their 2019 Summer Academy!
The program takes place in New York City for two weeks over the summer, where I will be enrolled in the course Writing the Big City: Reporting in New York
I would have the opportunity to immerse myself as a reporter in New York and learn directly from legendary professors, journalists, and leaders on how to capture the melting pot of culture, diversity, and uniqueness of the city. This would allow me to explore my passions for journalism, government, and writing in the Big Apple through a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
I have been a member of my school's online newspaper, The Central Digest , for four years of my high school career, serving the past two years as editor-in-chief; In fact, I have received the Most Valuable Staff Member award for three years in a row. While at first, I didn't really know what I was getting in to, my passion now for journalism is immense. I would say it is pretty rare to find a teenager in Harrison, Tennessee with a subscription to the New York Times like myself, so I would be honored to be able to learn directly from arguably the most prominent newspaper in the world.
I also had the amazing opportunity to travel to New York City last March, as a part of being the Chair of the Economic and Financial Committee for the Southeastern High School Model United Nations. It is safe to say that I fell in love with the intense urban atmosphere. Ever since then, I have been extremely eager to return and explore more of the enormous city!
This would be my last chance before going off to college to experience such an amazing opportunity.
I am asking for your help to fund $3,500 of the total cost of $5,750 towards my adventure and learning experience to New York City. The first deposit of $1,500 is due by March 18, which is approaching very soon.
I would be beyond grateful of any donation that you can spare. It would mean the world to me!
Thank you so much!
