Help us make 5000+ shields for our front lines

Hi! My name is Rahim Bhimani and I'm an industrial designer and design strategist and most importantly a maker. I have my own laser cutter and felt the need to help with the shortage of PPE.
Just over a week ago, I was invited to a Facebook group of 60k+ engineers and designers from all over the world sharing ideas, designs, concepts with each other to help with the worldwide PPE shortage. I was inspired and knew I could help.
I sourced materials from all over to create a series of prototypes to test. After I was confident with the design, I sourced enough to scale the shield for mass production. I procured the raw materials and then I was hard at work turning them into usable face shields.
This project was featured on the front page of the Globe and Mail in Toronto on April 1, and the response has been downright overwhelming and inspiring. Canadians everywhere are eager to help.

Our goal is to make 5000+ Shield Hero’s for our front line medical workers in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. In order to accomplish our goal, we need to purchase more materials to ramp up production, and that's where we need your help. Each shield costs approximately $6.80 (materials, lasering costs), so that’s a healthy baseline to inform your donation. 5000 Shields x $6.80 = $34,000

Updates:
• Version 3 is being prototyped right now without foam + reusable.
• We are in touch with an organization that will help determine which hospitals are in the greatest position of need for PPE. These institutions will be prioritized.

This lovely couple purchased 10 shields for their daughter who is a nurse practitioner in Northern Ontario (Atikokan) They’re mailing the shields out to her to keep her safe!
I’m committed to sharing new stories every time I hear how about how this project is making an impact in the Canadian medical community.
