“We live on this speck called Earth - think about what you might do, today or tomorrow - and make the most of it.” - Neil deGrasse Tyson

Hello there.  My name is Heather Bond, and I have the honor of introducing you to Bobby Holland.  I’ve known Bobby since 2015.  We are bandmates in The Daybreaks, as well as friends.  In fact, I consider myself one of Bobby’s best friends, but I imagine there are at least three hundred of you that feel the same.  Because that’s Bobby.  He is the guy you meet and within moments develop a friendship.

Bobby is an extraordinary producer, engineer, and musician.  He has probably mixed a record for you or someone you know.  He’s a musical wizard, a genius - if I dare say so myself.  But if I could describe Bobby in a few words, I would say that he is openhearted, optimistic, and above all - generous.  You know that person in your life who does so much for you and everyone you know, and you can never figure out how to return the generosity?  Bobby never asks for anything.  With this GoFundMe, we, as a community, can finally return that love by helping him raise money for a stem cell treatment in Thailand.

What is Bobby’s condition?

Bobby has Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) which is a genetic degenerative retina condition that causes him to slowly go blind.

Has Bobby had treatment before?

Yes.  2 years ago, Bobby participated in an experimental stem cell clinical trial in Fort Lauderdale, Florida known as SCOTS (Stem Cell Ophthalmologic Treatment Study).  They took bone marrow out of his upper hip bone/lower back, separated the stem cells, and injected them into his eyes.

Did the treatment work?

Yes.  He experienced approximately 300% improvement in overall vision.  From a scientific standpoint, it was a massive success.  For Bobby’s day to day life, his 2% - 3% vision was increased to 6% - 8%.

 Why Thailand?

Bobby has been approved to participate in a cutting edge stem cell treatment in Thailand to help improve his vision.  Instead of bone marrow stem cells, they use amniotic stem cells - which are more potent.  This treatment will likely slow down or temporarily stop his progression, and has the potential to improve his vision dramatically.

More questions about science related things?  Bobby is your guy, and he is an open book.  The most important thing to know about this GoFundMe is that we have the opportunity to help Bobby Holland.  We have the opportunity to change his life, and be part of something extraordinary.  In his words, “If I don’t do it, it won’t work.”  Somehow, Bobby remains one of the most optimistic, adventurous people I know - despite living with his condition.  Did I mention he’s a rock climber?  When he told me about this surgery, my instinct was to ask a million questions.  But the truth is, there’s only one question to ask, and that is:  How can I help?

I hope you will join me in contributing to Bobby’s stem cell treatment in Thailand!  I hope from the bottom of my heart that together we can change his life.  Thank you for reading this.  Thank you Bobby, for allowing me to be a tiny part of your story.  You’re an inspiration to us all.
