Helping guys get back to work

How you can help men get back to work. Support Best Foot Forward.

Best Foot Forward outfits men returning to the workforce so they can make a great first impression in their interview.  After they get the job, we provide a starter wardrobe so they can continue to make a good impression.

Our inventory is donated by individuals who no longer need the clothes because they have retired, changed careers, or changed sizes.

We work with a diverse population–men who are just out of recovery, just out of prison, just out of the military, and some who are just going through a hard time in life. We work with men who are housed and men who are homeless. We work with people eager to get back to work.

Best Foot Forward began as a program of the Julia West House six years ago. Julia West was closed this year, so we established Best Foot Forward as a stand-alone non-profit.

We outfit 600 to 800 men each year. The staff is all volunteer and our clothes are donated, but we need to raise money to pay the rent and utilities and buy supplies.

The total cost for operations is $2,083 per month. The cost of providing one man with  appropriate clothing for interviewing and starting a new job is Less than $40. That’s a small investment to help a man get back to work and become self-supporting.

We hope to raise enough money to cover expenses for the last three months of 2018. That is a total of $6,249 or 312 $20 donations. That will propel us into 2019 on a positive note.

Every donation has a tangible, immediate, and measurable impact. Please support Best Foot Forward as we continue to help men make a great first impression, then land a job.

About the phone booth: we’ve seen hundreds of men step out of the changing room, catch sight of themselves in the mirror, stand taller, smile, and exclaim, “Wow!” They are transformed. The most often heard phrase, after “Thank you,” is “I feel confident. I can get this job.” One day it dawned on us–that is not an ordinary changing room, that’s a telephone booth! Whether it brings to mind Superman or Dr. Who, the result is the same.

Men leave Best Foot Forward with Clothing, Courage, and Confidence. They are transformed.
