Helping Hand Mission Building Fund

Several major community partners have united to help Helping Hand Mission keep its historic New Bern House warm this winter:
* Duke Energy - Campaign Co-sponsor
* Triangle Community Foundation - Campaign Co-sponsor
* Raleigh Area Development Authority (RADA) - Campaign Fund Manager

These organizations are asking you to please join them in this 120-day fundraising campaign by giving back to an organization that has spent four decades serving the most vulnerable people in our community.

The goal is to raise $100,000 to purchase and install a heating and air conditioning system, fire alarm system, and other needed improvements to the 9,286 square-foot historic building.

The New Bern House now serves as housing for low-income individuals in need and a safe community hub for a number of charity groups.

Helping Hand Mission opened its doors in the winter of 1972, after an article in newspaper about a homeless man who froze to death prompted Mrs. Sylvia Wiggins, Executive Director, to begin “Operation Warm Clothing.”

Over the next 44 years, Helping Hand Mission has grown into a vital source of help and relief for people in need throughout the Raleigh area, serving thousands of individuals each year.  Its doors are open 365 days per year 24/7 to serve everyone regardless of race, creed, or color.  It currently provides housing to more than 20 families.

Everyday Mrs. Wiggins works tirelessly gathering items and assisting people in need.  But now it’s the Helping Hand Mission’s building that is in need of help.

The building has no central heating or air system.  The rooms are currently heated by safely placed space heaters and window units. This system is extremely costly for the organization, which relies solely on donations to maintain its operations.

What will your donation go toward?

 All the funds raised in this campaign will be used only to:
 *Purchase and install heating & air conditioning unit
 *Make  needed improvements to historic building
 *Most importantly, allow dozens of families to live in the New Bern House and those in the community who use this building, to do so comfortably.

All donations are tax deductible as Helping Hand Mission is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. To find out more about Helping Hand Mission, please visit: www.helpinghandmission-nc.org
