Hearing Daniel White
Donation protected
Together you and I are going to give Daniel S. White the gift of hearing. I'm going to give you purpose this Holiday Season, and you are going to help me keep a promise, and together we are going to do something amazing for a complete stranger. I'm giving you the chance to help a man hear. Something most of us take for granted everyday.
Daniel White, age 30 is 100 % deaf in one ear, and 93% deaf in the other. He was the victim of a violent Battery in Jeffersonville, Indiana on 5/31/2012 near National Avenue and Kopp Lane. During the course of being repeatedly punched in the face by his assailant, he was hit with such force, that his hearing aid was knocked out and it was never recovered. Officers searched the scene extensively but were unable to locate the aid.
We just concluded a Jury Trial and convicted his assailant of Battery and Carry a handgun without a License. I was shocked while talking to Daniel that he has gone the last two years without a hearing aid. He has made several attempts to get it replaced but has been unsuccessful with the programs he gained assistance from previously. Daniel has never owned a new hearing aid. Previous models were used and "Refurbished".
Daniel lost his job after being struck by a car, and lives with his mother Mia. He currently has no income. He is unable to receive SSI, because he has some partial hearing in one ear. He does not personally receive any financial assistance and lives with his mother.
While having lunch with Daniel, and trying to get to know him a little better, I learned that two months ago, Daniel's biological father was struck and killed by a Drunk Driver in Michigan.
Don't let the Floyd Central Sweatshirt fool you, Daniel is a graduate of Jeffersonville High School, and has completed one year at the University of Louisville. His last job was at Home Depot, and he held the job for four years. He currently has job applications out, but has not heard back from any employers.
I watched Daniel testify as a victim of violent crime. He is a man of integirty and determination. I thought to myself, this is why I am a Police Officer. I want to protect the innocent, to fight for people who could not defend themselves, and to simply have compassion for my fellow man.
After the first day of trial, I couldn't help but to feel for Daniel and his situation. Many of you know me through my Law Enforcement career and know my somewhat stoic exterior. I know through the years many have supported my efforts. You my friends have always answered the calls for help, and you have done so without hesitation.
Daniel didn't ask me for help. He never complained when he informed me he had gone without that hearing aid for the last two years. I never heard him utter a cross word about the man who beat him.
I've been in contact with Conn Hearing on Spring Street and they have agreed to help me any way they can to facilitate improving Daniel's hearing. My goal is to have Daniel his first new hearing aid by Christmas. I also want to help him find a new job, and help him get back on his feet with any additional funds raised.
In correspondence with a fellow Police Officer, as I was telling him Daniel's Story, he just told me, "If it is important to you, I'm with you." our verbiage that we use while working to just let a fellow officer know, 'We are in this together' or 'I'm right beside you'. Please consider Daniel this Holiday Season and make a donation to an individual worthy of your help.
I would also accept any leads on Jobs for Daniel. Thanks in advance for everything you can do to help this man, we can really make a diffence here.
