Nick's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Hello All,

For those of you who did not know, my little brother Nicholas has been in the hospital for the past month recovering from a major abdominal surgery.

For over a year now, he was getting sick every month, sometimes more and the doctors just said it was indigestion.  It started to get more frequent and worse.  Finally his last episode after throwing up for 20 hours or so, he was taken to the emergency room at Sky Ridge Medical Center and was finally going to be treated for what turned out to be a major blockage in his intestines.  After a two hour surgery and a removal of over 3 feet of his intestines the surgery was over.  They believe the blockage was a direct result from his first surgery.
Three years ago, my parents and brother were hit by a drunk driver and as a result  Nicks intestines were ruptured and he needed emergency surgery.  This second surgery is a direct result of complications from the first procedure.

Unfortunately, there have been several complications and set backs this post surgery.  He has suffered from infections, blockage and malnutrition (due to the fact he hasn't been able to keep solid food down since before his admittance).  Some of these things were expected after having such a major surgery, but some complications were a surprise to the doctors.  Hence the extra long hospital stay.

After his hospital stay, he will be transferred to a rehabilitation facility and will hopefully be home for Thanksgiving.

This whole situation has obviously  taken a toll on him.   With Nicholas being autistic, there have been instances where he was just so scared at times that he was unable to communicate with the nurses.  His poor body has been through so much, the road to recovery is going to be a long journey both physically and mentally.

Even with insurance, the amount that Nick will have to pay out of pocket will probably be up wards of $4,000.00.  He works at Little Ceasars Pizza one day a week every other week, so his financial situation is challenging.  And with months of recovery time, working is out of the question.  He lives with my parents, who take care of him.  But it is difficult since my mom works full time at Wal-mart and my dad (who just over the summer suffered from a stroke cannot work.)

Those of you who have met my brother know that he is the most kindest and sincere person ever! He was extremely saddened that he wouldn't be able to get out in time for Halloween (his favorite holiday), and instead was plagued with tubes down his throat and suffering from a fever caused by infection.

It is frustrating to think that this was a result of someone's bad decision three years ago.  Nick was just getting over the pain and mental anguish from the first surgery and now he has to go through it a second time.
We as a family are just asking our friends and family to show Nick that there is a light at the end of this tunnel.  Even if you are not able to donate, please send a card or a thought his way.

Thank you so much for all you support and love.
