We are not trying to change the world.
We are neighbors that started doing a YouTube show devoted to East Tennessee culture and personalities since July 2017. The show is called "Hometown East Tennessee," and we love doing it.
The original plan was to go out into the community and interview the people that influence local culture. We wanted to talk to cultural, political, and occasionally kookie locals about their businesses and passion projects.
The idea was to live stream all of this to a youtube channel and take interaction from the live chat room.
What we found was that there are few public places with internet service reliable enough to do a decent quality live stream.
Frustrated with the limitation despite LOTS of interview subjects, we fell back to doing live Skype interviews, but Thursdays at 8 pm is a tricky time to schedule many busy people with families we wanted to talk to, so, in absence of finding these guests, we fell back to our "studio" and the show became two friends talking about local stuff. It was good, but it wasn't what we originally set out to do.
After a few meetings, some brainstorming, and a few drinks, we came up with a new format, and the new format necessitated this GoFundMe page!

What we want to do is change the format of the show from a live weekly show to a weekly interview program with live discussion streams on YouTube every couple weeks. To do that we need to upgrade our equipment to be able to record interviews.
We are trying to raise $400 to purchase the following:
$300+tax - A GoPro Hero 5 camera and accessories
$100 for a quality audio recorder or compatible microphone.
With this small investment, we can travel without a laptop and webcam and record superior quality interviews and provide new opportunities for our channel's creative expression!
We are not changing the world here, but we believe that we have the power to bring our community closer together by dedicating our channel to giving our unique local perspective on culture, politics, news, and fun.
We KNOW we have the experience and talent to make a successful YouTube channel. We just need some basic equipment to build on.
As artists, we need a boost to get over this obstacle. Everything else is in place: management, experience (Shannon has been producing live video content for 25 years and was a streaming video specialist for 20 of those years,) talent (Bailey is a self-employed, professional writer and witty conversationalist), and motivation.
With your help, we can buy a new, inexpensive camera that will let us shoot 60-90 minutes of 4k HD video at a time! If we kick it down to 1080, we can store even MORE! We can shoot interviews and features whenever we can find the opportunity and edit a show spotlighting them every week to augment the LIVE shows. That's a LOT of local content, for a relatively small investment!
