Hope Basketball Tournament

WHO WE ARE
Hope Basketball is a community-based organization which works through the power of athletics to support character building and life skills development among urban youth in New York City.
WHAT WE DO
Last year, Hope Basketball has hosted a one-day, Summer basketball tournament at Midland Beach in Staten Island. Our aim is to create a safe space for youth to engage with each other and with local civic and community leaders.
Spreading only through word of mouth, last year’s tournament drew over 300 adolescents (ages 11-25) to Midland Beach, Staten Island where they were provided uniforms, food and a professional tournament environment. Support for this event was through donations and word of mouth.
Though our staff is small, social media use and periodic events throughout the year have allowed us to stay in contact with many of the youth who participated in last year’s tournament and its clear that they are looking forward to this year.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We plan to host this year’s tournament at Midland Beach in Staten Island, NY
Located across the east-central coast of the island, known as the East Shore. Midland Beach holds (4) separate basketball courts, each of which offer sweeping views of the shore and the perfect environment to hold qualifying games leading to the final tournament.
Last year, we spent over $8,000 (mostly donation) on this event – this year we would like to raise $7,000. This will help us to cover all expenses upfront and to offer a small stipend to those staff who will assist with following up and engaging these adolescents after the tournament.
