Shelby Street Fire Victims

In May 2015, Clarksville's Big Brothers Big Sisters introduced Ann Howard into my life as my new Little Sister. As the only girl of three, I was ecstatic, to say the least, to finally have a little sister! We bonded over our love for animals, Taylor Swift, and the color pink. Ann had aspirations of working hard to become a vet when she grew up. For her upcoming birthday, I planned to surprise Ann with tickets to Taylor's concert in Nashville this September. We loved to dance and sing along to her music during our time together. Ann brought so much joy to the hearts of the people who knew her and she has permanently changed my life for the better.
To speak highly of Ann is to speak highly of how her parents raised her-- with kindness and gratitude. Travis and Robin Howard adore their children, as any parent can imagine. What a parent should not have to imagine is having to bury their children.
In the early morning of July 7, 2015, a house fire awoke Travis. He alerted Robin, who was laying next to him, and pushed her out the front door-- close to where they were laying. Not being able to see Ann's door because of the thick smoke, they exhausted themselves trying to pull her out of the window from outside of the home, but she was still asleep, with her beloved cat she named Coal. Her 9 year-old brother Travis Jr. was also asleep. Ann's 14 year-old brother, Joshua, escaped the home with another family member.
Ann and Travis Jr., nicknamed "Junior", did not make it out of that home alive. Joshua is in the hospital under critical condition.
For a low-income family with two disabled parents, this tragedy is overwhelmingly devastating, not only emotionally but financially as well. To help cover the cost of medical treatment and funeral expenses, please consider donating what you can. Thank you for your prayers and warm thoughts during this heartbreaking time of loss.
