Hopefully Ever After: An American Story

The United States is unquestionably the strongest military power in the history of the world. We control a giant amount of land and the ability to express our will anyplace in the globe, on a few hours notice, with no real peers to challenge our dominance. Eight years after the economic collapse of 2008, we have rebounded higher than any other nation. This should be a moment of unquestioned American Renaissance. Instead, we just had one of the most traumatic elections in history, a battle-of-the-sexes, if you will, pitting a former First Lady & Secretary of State against a celebrity reality show star/ businessman/ political neophyte, with said newcomer going on to win the Presidency of the United States. This has caused a shock, not only to the American political system, but to everyday Americans, unsure of what Conservative dominance of American government means, fearful of what the new untested leader who's policies are all over the map actually stands for, and pessimistic about what the future holds for us all, as Americans, and as citizens of the world. This has led to millions of Americans living in terror and anger at their neighbors, friends, families, co-workers, and their fellow citizens for voting for or against their favored candidate. How can we live with such people? What do they want in the first place? Is the price too high to pay?

We are going to find out. We are going to criss-cross the United States, asking questions of right-wing activists and left-wing activists, non-voters and third-party voters, liberals and conservatives, trying to find out what their hopes and dreams for the future are and if those visions are compatible enough for continued coexistence or incompatible enough that cohabitation is impossible. We need to know this. It seems in our era of Meta-info, the hopes and dreams of our loved ones are the only things we don't really know. But to do this, we are going to need your help. This being the age of social media requires us to use the Tools of the Age to accomplish our goal of making this 'conversation' a reality.

But, that's not all we are up to! While we are out on the road, we will be throwing 'Pop-Up Soup Kitchens' in the towns that we visit in an effort to feed the hungry and highlight American food insecurity issues. We have the prep gear, but a great chunk of our raised funds will go toward this effort.

But to do all this, we will need 3 things:
1)your personal support. By this we mean we need your personal connections. We are going to be talking to your (our) friends and family. We want to talk to a broad swath of people from all walks of life. That friend/family member/loved one on Facebook you argue with constantly, but you love them so much you can't de-friend/cut out? We want to talk to them! Your crazy uncle that you love to pieces but ruins family get-togethers with his talk of wingnut conspiracies/the revolution? We want to sit down with them! Your spouse a die-hard apathetic non-participant? Lets chat on film! Are you a ride-or-die Libertarian/ Socialist/ Communist/ Nationalist who wants someone to listen to your outside-the-box thinking seriously? I want to hear you!
2) your physical support. We are engaged in a multi-state documentary film project, the likes of which can easily eclipse $100k. We are going to do this on the cheap. But to keep the project costs down, we will need lots of material support. Anything you can donate will help defray the costs!
3) your financial support. The most important part we save for last. As Americans, we are born knowing that most superb wisdom: cash rules everything around me. It takes $ to do anything. Again, we are about to start a multi-state documentary film project, something that costs over $100k usually. We are going to try to raise a little over a quarter of that to get this done. To do that, we are going to need your support. Any amount will do, and no amount is too small. Your $ will go to a worthwhile endeavor, like our fuel & equipment budget, but most of it will likely be spent feeding hungry people out in the sticks when we travel there to film, because its a form of carbon/karma offset for the fact that we are driving around and burning gasoline. We don't want this to just be a project about hope in a seemingly hopeless world, it should be about showing that the world isn't hopeless.

Donate if you can, in any way you can. Your love and support will help make our dream come true.
