Hugo's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
Hi there!
If you're reading this, it's likely that you've been touched my Hugo and/or his story, whether it be in real life or via the Internet. I adopted Hugo 5 1/2 years ago (check out Hugo's adoption story: https://youtu.be/avPMs5MRxSA
) and he's brought tremendous amounts of joy to my life.

Unfortunately, Hugo has recently been diagnosed with cancer (lymphoma). I talk about the process of what led to the diagnosis and show how quickly it came about in these vlogs: https://youtu.be/PxCg8fcddj0 https://youtu.be/NpNp2tX5Kt0 . Basically he had to be taken to the emergency vet and within 12 hours was deteoriating so quickly that he needed to start chemo right away.

Hugo's oncologist started him on the CHOP chemo protocol. It's the most effective treatment option but also the most costly. It requires weekly chemo costing $400 - $600 per week (possibly more), depending on the drugs administered that week of the protocol. Chemo cannot be administered without checking blood cell count so lab work and other fees apply each time.

Our visit in which Hugo was there for less than 16 hr (but did include his first round of chemo) was over $2700 (see the two invoices below). Hugo does have insurance but it doesn't cover everything (for example, consultation fees aren't covered and only a percentage of certain things are covered) and bills have to be paid up front, with reimbursement taking up to a month to come in.

Additionally, some of you may know that I lost my previous dog to cancer. We had done all the chemo and surgeries recommended to give her more time. While I do not regret any of it (we made those 7 1/2 months so special), she didn't have insurance and I'm still paying off the nearly $25,000 (possibly more) even now 6 years later. So you can imagine that it's pretty devastating to be in the same situation so soon.

Many of you have asked how you can help and some of you asked me to set up a GoFundMe so here it is. If you can contribute, do so. No amount is too small to make an impact on Hugo and I's life.

I'm happy to be super transparent and will gladly upload the bills each week so you can be assured that Hugo is receiving the treatment he needs. Additionally, as with I did with my previous dog, I'll be changing his diet to an anti-cancer diet, adding specific supplements to boost his immune system, etc. all things that are super helpful to him but not at all covered by his insurance.

Any support is so appreciated and as I mentioned on my vlog channel (www.youtube.com/user/missalinaminachats ), I will be doing a year of daily vlogs in 2017 so you'll get the opportunity to see Hugo's progress day-to-day.

Please share this with any you think that could help.

xoxo
