The days are cooling down and fall is here. While many of us look forward to fall fashion and football Sundays, this also means we are one season closer to extreme temps on the opposing side of the thermometer. As the mercury drops, the bitter cold proves to be a challenging time for our brothers, sisters and children that are homeless or have limited access to adequate heat. While I was fortunate enough to always have a roof over my head, I spent a good part of my childhood living in shelters or with family, picking through bags of donations for clothes and toys. For this reason, the circumstances of the less financially fortunate are close to my heart and often leave me wondering...WHAT CAN I DO??
Then, God gave me an idea when I saw a viral video on Facebook with the quote above as pop up text at the end credits.
How many times has your mother fussed at you about keeping a hat on your head during the cooler months? I know I fuss at my children about it. Why? Because most of your body heat escapes from your head. There are many coat drives but even adding something so small as a hat can make a huge a difference. I have been using the #NaturalBornHustler hashtag to exemplify what I stand for as well as for my music and Erikka J merchandise, and wanted to use that platform to do something - make some kind of difference. For that reason, I am launching my “Hustle for Hats” campaign.
Basic winter hats/beanies can often be found in stores for as little as $1. So let’s make a big impact by doing something small. I am partnering with fellow artist/philanthropist Tamir Rock through his “RVA Feed the City ” organization to distribute the winter hats at his annual event in Monroe Park each November. My goal is to collect at least 1,000 hats...so I need your help!!
Funds raised will be used to purchase winter hats in bulk. Any excess monetary contributions will be donated to “RVA Feed the City ” to support the November drive where last year alone over 1,000 people were given clothes, non-perishable goods, haircuts, provided a hot meal and more. Now in its 7th year, watch the video below to learn more about this exciting annual event.
I started the "Hustle for Hats" fundraising campaign to empower those not in the RVA area that may want to help from a distance, but alternatively (and preferably), starting October 1st, you can drop off your winter hats at any one of these Richmond area locations where my "Natural Born Hustler" tees are sold:

-Monument 823 W. Broad St. (VCU area) Richmond, VA
