A VISION OF GIVING AND A LEGACY WORTHY OF GENERATIONS
Dr. Manohar Gulati was perhaps best known for his relentless dedication and self-less commitment to serving the poor and under-privileged. While studying for medical school, he regularly volunteered during his spare time at a free homeopathic medical clinic (Gandhi Sawa Sadan Hospital) founded in 1946 in Amritsar, India by his father-in-law, the late Dr. Kidar Nath Mehra.

Not without controversy, the free medical clinic served as a safe-zone for ill-ridden refugees who were left homeless during the India/Pakistan partition. Dr. Mehra believed in serving and treating all individuals equally, with an equal right to receive basic medical care. This eye-opening experience and perspective had a profound influence on Manohar's journey to become a recognized physician.

While the hospital had ultimately closed down after a period of riots and destruction, it was re-opened by Dr. Anchaal Mehra in the memory of her grandfather to re-store the spirit of free service to those less fortunate. After completing his medical training, it had always been Dr. Manohar Gulati's dream to once again see the hospital flourish and grow to serve all those in need. He regularly provided his support and made visits to the place he once served as a child.

We have established this charity in the name of Dr. Manohar Gulati, to honor and recognize his dream to help serve the poor. All funds will be directly donated to the Gandhi Sawa Sadan Free Hospital to help provide free medical services to the poor. A plaque will be made and erected for Dr. Manohar Gulati to honor his name and to be displayed at the hospital, alongside the statue bust of Dr. Kidar Nath Mehra, which he helped fund and erect.

In lieue of flowers, we hope you will join us by making a donation to honor and recognize his dream in helping provide medical services to the poor, and to help keep the memory of his legacy live on for eternity.

FOUNDING STORY OF GANDHI SAWA SADAN HOSPITAL
Being deeply moved by the poor and pathetic conditions of low income especially of his locality Dr. Kidar Nath Mehra (father-in-law of Dr. Manohar Gulati) started a Homeopathic Free Hospital in Putlighar, Amritsar as early as in 1946. He founded “GANDHI SEWA SADAN” Homeopathic Free Hospital & Maternity Home run by Gandhi Sewa Sadan Free Hospital Society (Regd.) in 1950, which hospital is giving matchless services to the people of Amritsar. During partition riots he gave practically 24 hrs. a day services to the refugees coming from Pakistan and it was known about him that he is always available if somebody calls him at odd hours. He never showed the slightest sign of tiredness. He was commonly known as “Pitaji” because of his loving nature.
