Yoga Teacher Training

I used to poo poo on yoga.  It wasn't a "real" workout. Then, I moved to Austin, Texas and everyone was doing yoga.  The girl who HAD to spend 60 minutes a day on an elliptical or doing some sort of cardio was still resistant. One day I finally gave it a go, but only the hot kind since it meant I was sweating. As I was sweating it out in a room with probably 50 other people (told you yoga was popular in Austin), I started to cry. Apparently this happens a lot, but I felt like a giant weirdo. It tapped in to some part of me that became extremely emotional. Hallmark commercials have the same effect on me so it's not totally out of the ordinary. I kept going back sporadically until some not so great stuff happened in my life. Then I went multiple times a week and it was the only place where I stopped crying.

Fast forward a few years and I'm living in Florida and discover a small yoga studio about 20 minutes south of my house.  I visited Sutra yoga as frequently as my schedule and budget would allow, but still kept up my cardio queen ways. I fell in love with the homey studio and the owners/instructors.  This past year, I had the opportunity to participate in an Energy Exchange program and it came at the most perfect time in my life. I have not been able to work out due to injuries and illness, but yoga was still available.  Before, this would have sent me in to a tailspin, but I have loved every minute of it. My EE program allows me to attend all the yoga classes I want and I have never been in a better emotional or mental place.  My friends and family have noticed a difference and I am eternally grateful to Sutra for allowing me to deepen my practice.

Now I would like to give back.  Every day, I see my high school girls struggle with stress, body image issues, and overwhelming lifestyles. I want to become a certified yoga instructor so that I can start and implement a school yoga program. The many benefits of yoga for students have been documented and I believe it is a way we can educate the whole student, not just their mind, but body and soul.

As a Catholic school teacher, the rewards are huge, but the pay is not.  I am asking anyone who can to spare a few dollars so that I can pursue something I believe whole-heartedly in without having to compromise the day job that I love so much!
