IslandonWheels

For those who may not have heard of me. My name is Ruby Clarke Edwards. I own and operate IslandonWheels, LLC, as sole proprietor. IslandonWheels delivers great Jamaican cuisines to east and west side customers and outlying areas. I love to cook, but cooking was not my first love. Finance has always been my first passion, I have helped small businesses, corporations and private owners with financial challenges for almost 20 years by working for other employers. I was very successful but due to the economy it did not last for long. My income started declining, bills started falling behind and to make things even more worst I was going through a divorce.

I was working for a company for about 4 years, exactly on 12/31/2016 I was laid off due to lack of work that the company had experienced. This lay off was very detrimental to me. Not only did this company laid me off, but did the lay off during the holiday season. I had been seperated from my spouse who I am now divorced for about 4 months, with a lost of a second income, I had became a single parent with one teenage son, I had to use my entire savings to move me and my son into a decent community where we can be safe and comfortable.

January 2017, with financial pressure I accepted a job. This was my first job in 20 years with a hourly rate only with no commission. It was very challenging and stressful because I knew this hourly rate would not support me, my son and all of the financial obligations that I had. I decided to do the second love of my life. Cooking.

March 2017, I launched IslandonWheels. I have been dedicated and focused since the beginning. I prep, cook, package and deliver. In the beginning I was just delivering Friday and Saturday only.

September 2017 I had a meeting with my department manager and director explaining my financial challenges, requesting if I can do a permanent schedule change that will allow me to work 36 hours Monday to Thursday and 4 hours on Friday so I will be able to work IslandonWheels every Friday Saturday and Sunday to bring in more money as my supplement income. My department manager and director denied my request. So I sat down with myself and said "Ruby you need this supplement income to be every Friday Saturday and Sunday". So I took a $2.50 an hour pay cut with no commission to work for an employer that allows me to work Monday to Thursday 40 hours week schedule.

Since October 2017 IslandonWheels has been delivering Jamaican Cuisine every Friday Saturday and Sunday. I am working 44 hours to provide great food and delivery service to customers. Not forgetting I work a full-time job 40 hours Monday to Thursday. Islandonwheels has been well received with a steady following of repeat business as well as new customers. Reviews of the business have been posted and shared on the internet, texts on my cell phone, Instagram and Facebook. I went from selling 10 food boxes a weekend to now close to 50 food boxes a weekend. Due to the overwhelming delivery needs.

December 2017 I acquired a store front located at 3434 Memphis Ave., Cleveland, Ohio, The Old Brooklyn Community. This will be the new home for IslandonWheels Carry-Out and Delivery. Plans to operate the business include opening a carry out location where we will have a full service kitchen for the preparation of meals, a waiting area for walk-in trade, with access to soft drinks and desserts. We will be in a diverse community servicing both residential and commercial customers, and are offering a product that is not in a 15 mile radius of our location. This is a very busy area that has hospitals, libraries, various businesses, schools, churches, major highways and shopping plazas from which we can draw our clientele.

The success of my business has shown me that by expanding my facilities I can make it even more successful. Social media has been very instrumental in helping the business to get off the ground. A strong percentage of my business has come from reviews, sharing, postings, and comments via Facebook and Instagram and word of mouth. In addition, colorful menus are left with repeat and new customers in the hopes that they are shared with others.

I feel that the business is unique in that we provide all types of flavored seasoned meats and soups as well as our great presentation of food (as told to us by our customers). The future of our business is to be the number one Jamaican-Caribbean restaurant in the Greater Cleveland area because our food is not like any other Jamaican or Caribbean restaurant. I have accomplished alot. But to keep the business growing I am in need of additional funding for further promotion of the restaurant through marketing in local magazines, posters, menus, and local events, and to complete the installation of the unpurchased exhaust hood and of the restaurant equipment that has already been purchased.
My goal is to reach as close to $10,000.

In closing, Donations and/or investors will enable me to open and operate as a full serviced carry-out and delivery restaurant and keep our doors open 7 days a week.

Any assistance will be dearly appreciated!!
