It's the Holidays, Period

It's the Holidays, Period: a campaign to collect tampons + pads for homeless and displaced individuals.

One year ago, I asked you to imagine what it might be like to have to decide between being able to purchase a few extra gallons of gas, a bus ticket, food for you or your children OR being able to purchase tampons for yourself. Like me, many of you—most of you—said you’d never given it any thought. Like me, you’d never considered that something that seems so basic might be something someone else regularly goes without.

It’s the Holidays, Period launched just before Thanksgiving 2015 with a goal to collect 500 boxes of tampons + pads for homeless individuals and those living in transitional housing.

But you heard 500 and said, “We can do so much more.”

From California to New York, from Nashville to New Zealand, your donations poured in.

You shared. You tweeted. You regrammed and forwarded.

You told friends and family. You told your colleagues and your neighbors. You even turned your holiday parties into mini-drives to collect more donations.

YOU SAW A CHANCE TO GIVE, AND THEN YOU FOLLOWED THROUGH.

In just 37 days, you donated more than $4,200. Over 1,800 boxes of tampons + pads were purchased and donated.

That’s 10,466 pads. That’s 48,531 tampons.

Because of you, the YWCA, the Nashville Rescue Mission, and The Next Door—local non-profits each serving individuals in our community in different ways—could extend their reach a little bit further.

Because of you, one less person went without something basic. Something essential. Something so many of us take for granted.

THIS YEAR, LET’S BREAK $5K.
LET’S HIT 2,000 BOXES.

Every donation goes directly towards the purchase of tampons + pads, all of which are then donated to three local non-profits. I’m honored this year to partner with Room In The Inn , Launch Pad & Renewal House .

In addition to financial contributions, we’ll again offer ways to make product donations. Serving as our exclusive drop-off location partner this year, Vinnie Louise , Nashville’s go-to clothing boutique, is offering 10% off your purchase when you bring in a box of tampons or pads beginning Sat., Nov. 26.

Visit them at:
2309 12th Avenue South in 12 South
OR
737 Porter Road in East Nashville

Other ways you can give:

— Share, share, share. On Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, wherever you hang out online! Sharing is vital to this campaign.
— Pledge to match donations.
— Hold your own mini-drive. Planning a work holiday party? Hosting friends + family? Ask folks to bring a donation!

This year's campaign ends December 31.

Thank you for all the many ways you contributed last year. I've never been prouder to be a Nashvillian.

I hope you’ll join me again this holiday season as we work to provide individuals in our community access to these essential products. Dignity is priceless.

IT’S THE HOLIDAYS, PERIOD BEGINS NOW.
