URGENT LIFE AND DEATH PLEA FOR HELP: PLEASE HELP JUDITH FIGHT DEPORTATION BY SUPPORTING THIS PLEA FOR LEGAL FEES

AFRICAN LGBTI OUT & PROUD DIAMOND GROUP (UK) CALL FOR YOUR URGENT HELP!

We urgently need to raise £3,000 to halt the unconscionable, inhumane and unjust deportation of Judith Twikirize back to Uganda by the UK Home Office.

Judith is a known lesbian in Uganda. If she is sent back, her life would be placed in great jeopardy.

On 29th September 2014, Judith went to Croydon at the Home Office to claim asylum. She was taken to Colnbrook Removal Centre and after 7 days she was transferred to Yarlwoods Immigration Detention Centre, prison-like detention centres.

Judith’s case was dismissed by the Home Office and at the Immigration Tribunal.

Judith was unable to gather enough evidence within the minimal time frame due to the nature of Detention Fast Track (DFT) process she was subjected to. This was a major infringement of her legal right to asylum.

Judith was given legal aid representation, which was inadequate and now, just as Judith has been able to gather the evidence she needs to re establish her case, those lawyers have refused to continue to work for her under legal aid.

International and Ugandan activists have come to the fore, with letters and reports, from around the world to support Judith. OPDG has not been able to secure a pro bono (free) attorney.  The legal fee estimates run between £3,000 - £4,500.

he money will be used to prepare a fresh claim and judicial review.
The authorities in the United Kingdom do not believe that Judith Twikirize, a known lesbian, was tortured because of her sexuality, despite some of the evidence presented by medical experts both in Yarlswood and Medical Justice. Now new evidence from activists in Uganda confirm Judith’s story. But without your help, she will not have a chance.

Judith is indeed a lesbian, she has been an activist in the United Kingdom, participating as such in LGBTI campaigns, which places her in extreme danger if she returns. She suffered great torture at the hands of family and assaults in Uganda, where being LGBTI is criminalized and where there is a heightened push right now for further state sanctioned persecution through more onerous anti-homosexuality legislation.

Judith has faced great challenges as being in detention while trying to make one’s case makes it all the more difficult.

PLEASE – even the smallest amounts will add up to help, as well as passing this around to everyone you know.
